In 1971 Home EC teacher Madonna Matheson had an idea to create sewing kits that would help kids learn to sew.
"Teaching a child to sew doesn't have to be a frustrating experience. It can be lots of fun for all concerned if it's
taught in simplified stages. Ive found, more than anything else, beginners need concise simple
instructions and sewing projects that are fun as well as educational."
said Madonna Matheson, a home economics teacher for more than 15 years.
OK, Let's see a show of hands....
WHO MADE ONE OF THESE IN THE 7th OR 8th GRADE!
My son is home schooled and I thought it would be fun to get him one to do. This was before I realized that
these just do not exist any more. I believe I may have the only large collection of these.
I have been collection them for several years and probably have 50+. Still missing several "KEY" ones.
Let me tell you they do not come up often. There is also next to no information on the net about them.
They usually don't go for very much, but if you want a specific one you may be waiting a while.
Kits
Here is Madonna Matheson's book.
Here is the flyer that was sent to Home EC teachers to pass around the class so orders could be taken.
The first two pictures are from around 1984. The third and forth from around 1986.
